Tammy is a native to upstate NY and brings diverse experience to the practice that includes family medicine, pediatrics, school health, research, occupational health, allergy/asthma/immunology and gastroenterology. Tammy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Roberts Wesleyan College in 1997. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at SUNY Brockport in 2002. Tammy was inducted into the only international honor society for nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, in 2001 and is the former President of the Omicron Beta Chapter at SUNY Brockport. The Cambridge Who’s Who’s recognized Tammy as an honored member and selected her for inclusion in the 2007-2008 Registry of Executives and Professionals. Tammy has been a member of The Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, Greater Rochester chapter, and formerly the American College of Nurse Practitioners as well as the New York State Nurses Association.
Tammy’s first involvement in the health care field was as a senior in high school when she volunteered at Strong Memorial Hospital in the Friends of Strong Student Extern program. Tammy worked as a home health aide and then as a patient care technician at Highland Hospital while working towards her degree in nursing. She started her career at Park Ridge Hospital on a surgical post-operative floor and then broadened her horizons as the high school nurse at Gates-Chili High School. While attending graduate school, she gained experience in gastroenterology research and asthma, allergy, immunology and rheumatology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She also gained additional pediatric nursing experience at the Care-A-Lot Child Care Center where she was the onsite Registered Professional Nurse and also the Health and Safety Director. In addition, Tammy authored a health column for the center’s newsletter.
After completing the family nurse practitioner program and becoming board certified in Family Health, Tammy was the Nurse Practitioner in the student health center at Elim Bible Institute. Then she volunteered as a primary care provider for the underserved and uninsured of Rochester at Mercy Outreach Center. In 2005, Tammy began her journey in family medicine at Churchville-Chili Family Medicine caring for patients across the life span and provided women’s health care and occasional home visits as needed for the practice. After primary care, her next adventure was in occupational health where she diagnosed and treated work-related injuries, completed school, pre-employment and respiratory physicals for firemen and asbestos employees. During her time in occupational health, Tammy organized a flu clinic in the community and developed a smoking cessation protocol based on current research to evaluate and treat clients seeking to quit tobacco use. For the 2009-2010 school year, Tammy served as a mentor for a student completing his senior project at Wayne Central School on balancing body pH to promote health and prevent illness. Tammy’s clinical interests are asthma, environmental and food allergies, nutrition and autoimmune disorders.
